Life in the Cabin part 2- staff training
Session #7 ~ Life in the Cabin Part II
Cabin Leader / LIT Expectations
What you do:
Your job is to be God’s hands and feet; we are the support staff that help you get this accomplished
Your job is to love the kids. Unless you are on your off time, you should be with your kids.
Camp is for the camper, if you ever ask yourself, “what should I do?” ~ The answer is “How I can best show God’s love to my campers?”
“Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:
Servant Leadership
Priorities:
• We are here for God, not for ourselves.
• Always put the kids first
• It won’t be easy, but it will be rewarding
We Follow Jesus’ Example:
John 13:5 ~ “After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.”
Luke 9:48-“the one who is least among all of you, this is the one who is great”
What This Means at Camp:
You will end up staying up in the night with campers because they are sick, scared, homesick, or have to use the washroom.
You will need to be always thinking of the campers and praying for them.
You don’t take extra snacks in front of the kids like you are better than them because “you know the kitchen staff.”
You don’t have staff huddles when you should be with the campers.
Be Humble. If you don’t know the answer, be honest. You aren’t here to impress the campers; you are here to love them.
Etc...............
~ You will need to go above and beyond the call of duty sometimes; you will be tired, hungry, or upset, but you will still need to focus your attention on the campers. ~
Leader/LIT Relations
Leaders should be more mature when it comes to answering God questions and dealing with discipline. Leaders should take a bigger load. (1 Timothy 3:1-11)
This does not mean that LIT’s have a free ride. Take direction from your leaders and work as a team. LIT’s should not be given all the jobs such as cleaning wet bunks and such. (1 Corinthians 12: 22-23)
Leaders - Take time to explain what you are doing to your LIT’s, you are here to support them.
LIT’s – Ask your leaders questions. You can learn a lot from them.
Pray together, talk about campers – struggles, joys – communicate. Communication is extremely important! Let each other know when you are tired or stressed, and constantly let each other know where you are what you are doing and which campers you have with you. (1 Corinthians 12:26)
Pray for each other. This will help a lot as you both start to get tired and stressed. (Ephesians 6:18-19, 1 Timothy 2:1-2, James 5:13-20)
For the sake of the campers, you need to pray with each other and for each other. Don’t let your own personal problems or pride get in the way of what you are both trying to accomplish with these campers.
Cabin Leaders and LIT’s can have an awesome time together when they are communicating and praying about everything!!!
