Most of the bulleting formating was lost when I cut and paste it into here but you get the idea. We brought in a few parents that are familiar to camp and asked them questions to give our volunteers an idea of what parents expect.

Seminar: Health and Welfare of Campers/Parents Expectations


I. Nurses’ View of Camp

2. Dealing with camper complaints – how can you tell if they are for real?

a. Who has the puffer?
10. Lice-
a. How to prevent it, how to find it, what to do after…



II. Parent Panel
a. Intro
i. Introduce yourselves, contact with camps
ii. Format – the times when the parent’s contact with camp and how the counselor can ensure that expectations of parents are met
b. 5 minutes Packing –
i. what’s going through the parents’ mind?
c. 2 minutes Parking –
i. what are parents expecting?
d. 3 minutes Registration –
i. what are parents looking for?
e. 10 minutes Meeting the counselor?
i. Appearance
ii. Poise
iii. Competence
iv. How to field questions
f. 10 minutes Worries during the week –
i. What needs need to be met? How?
ii. What influences are hoped for?
g. 5 minutes Pick up and drive home –
i. What is happening in parents’ minds?
h. 5 minutes At home –
i. What the kids say about camp – what are key things parents need to hear in order to have their kids return?
i. 5 minutes After camp contact –
i. Parent’s thoughts on follow up letters, follow up rally’s, contact with a counselor
