War Empty War

Post by Patate Frite Sat Feb 23, 2008 8:49 am

This game is a spin-off of the card game ‘War’. Cabin points are up for grabs.

Time: 45-60 minutes

Materials:
- at least 5 full deck of cards (approx. 2 cards per player) (includes Jokers)
- 2 buckets
- playing field
- jail (designate an area for)

Objective:
- To find 3 or 5 other campers (depending on the number of campers playing) with the same card as yours.
- Once found, together they collect points for each of their cabins. The cabin with the most points wins the game.

Set-up:
- Make boundaries for the jail
- Set a counselor at the entrance of the jail (the collector), and another at the exit (the distributor). Each of them should hold a bucket. The one at the exit should have all the leftover cards his bucket.
- 4-5 counselors should be designated as jailors
- Before the game starts, have everyone take one card from the exit bucket. Once they have a card, they should spread out in the playing field. If this doesn’t happen, don’t worry. They will naturally spread out once the game starts.

Gameplay:
- in order to find the other members of your team, you must challenge other people to a duel by tagging them.
- the person with the highest card wins – 2 being the lowest card, and Joker being the highest.
- the one exception is the 2. He/she can only win over a Joker.
- the loser of the duel must go to jail, and hand his/her card in the collector’s bucket. They must do what the jailer says in order to get a new card from the distributor (coming out).
- the jailors need to make the tasks fun, or even incredibly silly. Ex: make five baskets (basket-ball), sing a body bonker song, propose to ___, physical exercises (unless it's a very hot day), create a song about picking your wedgy to the tune of ___, etc, etc.
- the winners of the dual continue their quest to find the members of his team.
- if you found another member of your team, together (holding hands) you trump numbers that are higher than your own. For example, if a pair of 4s tag a 9, the 9 goes to jail. But if the pair of 4s tag a pair of 9s, then the whole team of 4s is sent to jail.
- Face cards and Jokers need to find 5 other members for a complete a team of 6, whereas all other cards only need 3 other members for a complete a team of 4.
- once your team is complete, you must go to the collector and tell him/her which cabins you are all in to receive points for your cabin. The collector will keep score. The winners should then get a new card (from the distributor) and start over.

Unforeseen expectations:
- If the whole group duals with each other when the game starts, expect half of them to end up in jail right away. So jailors, be ready ahead of time!
- Also, when the collector’s bucket fills up, don’t forget to give them over to the distributor, or he/she will run out. It’s good idea to have a few extra deck of cards handy.
